I've set up a 9930 on hosted BES with several additional IMAP accounts. Struggling with lack of full sync on gmail (compared to iPhone), but I can live with it.

Can someone tell me if the IMAP accounts are run using the BIS? If so, is the security/encryption routed through the NOC as with my BES account? My understanding is that while the BES account is the most secure, the BIS (IMAP??) accounts are secure to a certain level.

Is this an improvement over the Active-sync I used on the iPhone? I'm hoping it is, because the trade off in IMAP sync efficiency would be worth the bump in email security.

Also, is all internet traffic (browsing, etc) originating on the BB handset handled by the BIS?

Or have I got it wrong?

If I delete a calendar invite, instead of accepting or declining it, the meeting will go on my calendar marked tentative. I consider this a safety feature, since it keeps you from losing the meeting info if you accidentally delete it. Declining the meeting will cause it to not be put on the calendar.

I'm on BES, if you're on BIS or not using Outlook, your results may be different.

I just switched from 9900 to 9810 via desktop software. Everything went over, but all my old emails were gone even though all the email icons transferred 2 the new device. I then went and restore my 9810 to a later date cuz I backed up 9900 right before I did the switch. Now all my old emails are there on 9810, but it doesn't let me send emails.

How do I fix this? Do I have 2 renter all my email passwords 2 make it work? If so, can someone help & give me detailed instructions?

you will need to log into your T-Mobile BIS and change devises. the BIS sends and receives your emails and sends them to your phone. It probably still has the old pin# it is trying to send them to.

I'm with koodo and have a android phone and have the data saver package and basically i get charged data as i use it and long story short hotmail works and my phone fetches email/data as per my settings.

Im thinking abt getting a blackberry locked to koodo (curve 8530) and keeping my current voice plan and keeping the current data saver plan, so basically i will have data BUT I WONT HAVE the blackberry add on.

will i still be able to receive hotmail emails on the blackberry???? when im not on wifi of course.

If you guys need help with understanding koodo plans im adding the link, I already have the Data Saver option, which starts from $5 a mth and goes up to $25 depending on data usage.

Oh wait it wont let me, anyways if u need help, just go to koodo.ca and select plans and then add ons.

Blackberry uses BIS which are their own servers so regular data will not work with any BB. Your carrier has to "register" your BB with BIS servers in order for email/data and other internet related services to work.

You can manage all your email setting from browser which I find much easier and quicker.

Can I BIS data plan on non-blackberry smartphone?

I have a Storm 2 but I'd like to buy a Samsung Galaxy S2 and use it on the same BIS data plan. Is it possible or BIS won't work on non-blackberry smartphone?

BIS is BlackBerry-specific. A BlackBerry won't work without a BlackBerry data plan because the data stream is routed through RIM servers. But if you are talking about a smartphone data plan, that's more generic and a carrier can switch you over to another phone. I suppose technically it's a different data plan, not sure how that works.
